We get a lot of emails from users asking us for Cinavia solutions. It’s quite common people use the term “disable Cinavia” or “bypass Cinavia” but did you know it’s not actually illegal to do any modifications to Cinavia? Disabling a Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection is illegal according to the DMCA.
However, if you own the rights to your movie files, and are allowed to modify its content you should be fine. Verance’s Cinavia was created for the Playstation 3 and BluRay players. This doesn’t mean that you can’t modify your video files as you want to.
There are jailbreaking methods of disabling Cinavia. If you’ve jailbroken your console you can remove the Cinavia files which are incorporated into the movie playback system which the PS3 uses. Although this mostly surely is illegal and will void you warranty. And for those who are unfamiliar to jailbreaks, it isn’t easy to do so since it requires an old firmware version to be installed.
As 2011 comes to an end there are still a few movies left for the makers of Cinavia to put their DRM protection. This time it’s not the heavily pirated cinema releases but a few BluRay retail movies.
Moneyball is the most mainstream movies of the four, as it has Brad Pitt in the leading role. It’s the story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players. Unfortunately Cinavia also made it into the horror movie “Don’t be afraid of the dark”. While the movie hasn’t received great reviews – A few people will be surprised if they are trying to do back-up copies.

Movie leaks & album leaks are a big part of the entertainment industry. But what has been done to prevent them and is it an impossible task?
Throughout the years there have been a lot of discussions regarding piracy’s effect on the entertainment industry. The movie industry has tackled this with copy protection methods and 3D movies. The music industry has also tried numerous copy protection methods but none of which has been successful. Instead, they went after the download sites and services – And didn’t struggled to keep the compact disk format alive. This caused a severe blow to the music industry and left the major labels clueless for many years. While piracy hasn’t been kind to the movie industry, streaming services like Netflix gained success fairly quickly.
Spotify was recently introduced in the US as way for people to get their hands on a large music library – Without having to use torrents or other file sharing sites. Rdio is also an alternative to enable music streams but since Spotify has partnered with Facebook, they are currently the most promising services of the two. But the services doesn’t seem to stop album leaks or other forms of music downloads. And its the same with the movie industry – People recording at the theaters hasn’t stopped. The biggest movie blockbusters are still accessible a day or two after theatrical release. Free album downloads, a thing people take for granted now a days?
So is it impossible to put a stop to movie and album leaks? One interesting new form of release has been to release a movie on demand, and then release it theatrical. This was the case with Tim and Eric’s billion dollar movie, which was put on iTunes movie streaming platform months before its theatrical release. The piracy alternative was suddenly less attractive as the movie was released on the internet before any P2P downloading site or blog had it. It was also presented in HD and unlike the downloading options, it was available to be streamed.
Could this be an interesting idea to try for the music industry as well? We’ve seem some cases were artists release an album to be streamed for free when their album has leaked. Could this be industry standard in a couple of years? It could well be an alternative and might draw attention from album leaks to digital stores such as iTunes.
The Cinavia error messages has begun to pop up on a range of new movie titles. Wikipedia has covered some of the titles but most of the Telesync and Cam movies are left out. One of them is the new version of 21 Jump Street – One of the biggest comedies of 2012 so far. Safe House, the thriller which hit theaters last month has also been watermarked with Cinavia.
In the DVD and BluRay department there are handfull of major releases. Most notable are Tintin and the new Underworld movie. The Vow has also been treated with a watermark, but to be honest – Isn’t that movie suppose to be really bad(?) For some reason, the Wikipedia page for Cinavia has stopped adding new movie titles which are affected by the Cinavia error message. I have no idea why, but luckily we use other sources to find the titles for you. This time we turn to the summer releases of 2012, including both DVD and BluRay movies.
The first blockbuster to make the cut is The Wrath of the Titans, which is the follow-up to the first Titans movie, which also had the Cinavia protection inserted. Then it’s on to the comedy genre, we’re we find Project X, a movie which has gotten an amazing low score at Rotten Tomatoes. So you shouldn’t be all too sad if you don’t get to see the movie. A friend of mine did say he liked it, but then he said New Years Eve was pretty good. Then we head on over to the scary movies and we found Mr Harry Potter (not the actual fictive person, but the actor) in The Woman in black. Once more, a movie affected by the Cinavia protection.
How can you stay mad at a movie like this? Cinavia or no cinavia, that suit is awesome.
Eh, and Ghost Rider 2 also has the error. But please, if you’re anxious to see that movie – It’s better to hit your head against the wall several times. Or, that’s what I’ve been told any way. Underworld Awakening, now that’s another story. But not for the actual story, for some reason I don’t care about the plot.
Then we’ve got the new American Pie movie. The horrible, non-return to form, American Reunion. Actually we should be thankful it has the protection. The fewer people who actual see this, the better.

Recommended players, without Cinavia
Currently, one manufacturer has said that they won’t support Cinavia, ever. They are called Oppo, and while they aren’t going to support the watermark – Their players are expensive. See a list of Oppo players here. There’s also the possibility to get an old BluRay player (from 2010) and never update its firmware, a solution which is less tempting.

Below is a list of newly released movies with the error and copyright protection system embedded in them. Most of them were handed out to Oscar members and were intended to be viewed at home. But every year the releases gets leaked out, some way or another.
While most of them aren’t Blu-Ray copies, they are high enough quality to be very popular. Especially since most of them are major blockbusters who just made the run, or are in theaters. Please note that we don’t provide any downloads to these movies as they are all copyrighted.

It’s a common question when it comes to downloading or streaming movies. My first thought is, the bigger the size, the better the quality is. But is it still true?
I guess all kind of things can happen when you transfer a movie from blu-ray to an hard disk. But, is there a way to say that one of theese are theoretically better than the others?

The first two has almost the same size, number three is smaller. Smaller means less hard disk use, but my first priority is quality.
The answer
It’s gets a bit complicated, but the only way you’re really going to know is to compare bit rates and encoding methods. File sizes only tell part of the story.
For example; you could have two 1080p encodes with identical bit rates but different audio tracks (one 2 channel stereo, one DTS/DTS-MA etc). The audio bit rate alone will make one significantly larger than the other.
That third one you’ve listed is X265 (HEVC) which is higher compression than X264 but requires more overhead for playback. Theoretically the picture quality should be identical but X265 allows higher compression and therefore smaller file size – but, once again, it comes back to bit rate.
How do you fix the error message for these new movies?
Either you use the NoErrors.info fix, or you wait until they are officially release to retail. There are a number of new movies being effected by the error messages, and we got the latest batch below. All of these are set to get a 2017 release in the cinema.

Some of these movies are about to get a retail release, such as The Ghost In The Shell (based on the 1994 anime) and Wonder Woman. But upcoming films such as Blade Runner 2 as well as the Stephen King based movies The Dark Tower and IT are already set to include Cinavia since their distribution companies are known for using the service.
CinEx is a software which claims to remove and protect against Cinavia error messages. It’s part of a range of softwares including CinEx HD, CinFect, CinDe and SoundTouch 2. The software claims to add, detect and output a working version of the movie.
You are limited to DVDs
While CinEx works with BluRays, DVDs (but only US NTSC versions) or pirated, downloaded versions – It can only output a DVD. This means you’re looking to get a major downgrade in quality even if your original version was either a high-quality, downloaded BluRay rip or a physical BluRay disc.
This might not be a deal breaker, but the DVD quality is a huge downgrade.
And you can’t keep any bonus material, such as movies or extras. This might not be a deal breaker, but the DVD quality is a huge downgrade.
How does it work?
CinEx works in two ways – Either they remove the error message using the CinEx HD utility tool. But it’s limited to a selection of movies. The list includes major titles such as John Wick 2, however – the software needs to be updated with new movies regularly. You are likely to find your title, but if you don’t you need to use the other software – SoundTouch 2. This software works a bit different, downgrading the audio. This means your movie won’t get the error message, but the audio is significantly worse. It might be worth the tradeoff.
Your movie needs to be supported.
Is it legal?
The short answer is no. It depends on country, but modifying your movies are often OK – As long as you own the movie. But most users of this software will use pirated, torrented movies – Wanting to remove the error because the movie isn’t officially available or is still being shown in the cinema. And as we know, pirated movies aren’t exactly legal. As for the software itself, Cinavia might not be too happy about it.
Confusing
The problem with Cinex HD is its various tools and software. CinDe, Cinex HD, SoundTouch, SoundTouch 2 and CinFect. The softwares do different things, but it’s difficult to keep track of what does what.
Should you buy it?
We recommend NoErrors.info instead, as it’s less expensive and works on all movies, and aren’t restricted to a list of movies. It’s also less messy, as CinEx requires various software tools and are split into different solutions and software. But we’re impressed by their amazing support and are sure they will have a better solution in the future, which is more user friendly.
